Who we are

Founded in 2008 by French, German, and Dutch postgraduates in the Netherlands, claudepiel.org now operates from Germany with an international network of collaborators, journalists, authors, photographers, and film experts who share the same conviction: that journalism exists for people, independent, fact-based, and responsible.

Claude Piel

Founder of claudepiel.org is an independent journalist and author, with postgraduate degrees in Politics, Journalism, and Law from France and Germany. She has worked with Radio France Internationale, Schott Glas, ARTE Television, and Ford Business TV. As responsible editor of a bimonthly publication produced in eight languages and distributed in 27 countries with a circulation of one million copies, she developed a strong focus on international communication and media diversity.

Today, she is an internationally recognized author, moderator, and television producer, and serves as an adviser to the Diplomatic Council, a global think tank with consultative status at the United Nations. Her work reflects a lifelong commitment to independent, human, and engaged journalism — active journalism, from words to action.

Karsten Kurowski

Karsten Kurowski is an independent journalist, consultant, and producer from Bordeaux, France. His reporting and training work focus on communication, participation, and intercultural exchange.

In 2016, he received the Franco-German Friendship Prize, honoring his long-term dedication to dialogue between the two countries.

Hans Terhurne

Hans Terhurne, creativity expert and mind-mapping specialist from the Netherlands. He has worked for many years in Germany, developing methods for visual thinking, innovation processes, and creative problem-solving in international organizations and media projects.

Author of Innovatie door creativiteit: ruim 50 tools om problemen creatief op te lossen, Innovation by Creativity: Fifty Tools on How to Solve Problems Creatively, he serves as an adviser to claudepiel.org on creativity, methodology, and visual communication.

Dirk Hoy

Dirk Hoy is an independent photographer based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, works at the intersection of portrait and reportage. He studied photography and photodesign in Berlin and Darmstadt and has been running his own studio in Frankfurt for many years. His work focuses on people and context, images that go beyond representation, capturing the atmosphere of a moment and the depth of a story.

As an independent visual author, he collaborates with journalists, artists, and institutions throughout the Frankfurt/Rhein-Main region and internationally. Within our network, Dirk brings his visual expertise to our journalistic and documentary projects, translating research and reflection into clear, human imagery.

His portraits and documentary series accompany our work on environment, diplomacy, and cultural communication, adding the visual dimension that makes dialogue visible.
