Just a few days before he was elected to one of four seats available for the Asia-Pacific, in the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, for the period 2018-2022. The election that took place in Paris during the 7th General Assembly of UNESCO.
Vietnam has been the official partner country of this year’s Diplomatic Council Summer Celebration and H.E. Doan Xuan Hung, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Diplomatic Council member, delivered a very interesting keynote speech about his country.
The Diplomatic Council global headquarter is based in The Hague, The Netherlands
The worldwide capital of peace. In addition the Diplomatic Council The Hague houses in the Peace Palace the International Court of Justice, which is the principal judicial body of the United Nations, the Permanent Court of Arbitration, the Hague Academy of International Law and the Peace Palace Library.

Millennium Children – This is not a nightmare, but part of our 21st-century. I used to be a journalist at an international help organization. Once I asked a friend photograph which was the most frightening situation he had to face in his lifetime? His answer was: “to stand in front of a child, who has a gun in his hand, a child soldier”. These are only some examples of what many children have to face on a daily basis. These children are all dreaming of a good education. They have the power to learn something bigger than themselves, for they know about cell phones, Internet, robots and machines. They want a work that matters, that makes a difference.

Imagine now being eight years old in a small village in Egypt or Afghanistan. You would love to play football with your friends, but your baba said it is forbidden. One day, a friend didn’t listen to his baba and went out to play. Now he has no legs. Another of your friends has only one arm. Your Mama said it is the result of these things called anti-personnel mines. You cannot see them, they say, because they are below the ground. You think you have seen one shining in the sun, and wanted to touch it to know what it is, but your baba came and stopped you from doing it…

Millennium Children – “They Care About Us” (1) One Room Shelter

Millennium Children are today in the year of 2018 over 18 years old. Most of Millennium Children were not born in the so called Western world. They were born in Asia or Africa. On the African continent for example, the median age of the whole population today is 19 years old. Thus let us imagine how it can be: To walk in the shoes of one of those Millennium Children, who had not any chance to grow up in a great surrounds like me in Paris and see how it feels like.
Imagine you are one Millennium Children. You are four years old. You live in the suburb of Rio de Janeiro, Kinshasa or Mogadishu at your parents house. Your house is a one-room shelter. You share it with your parents and many of your brothers and sisters. You all sleep. You all wake up. You all eat in this same tiny one room. When it is dark: You all go to sleep. Because there is no light any more. And it is not easy to find clear water to drink. You like to sit and play in front of the house. You play with some strange objects. You don’t see the garbage and dirt around you. Because this is your world! But most of the time, you cannot sit and play. Because you have to help your family earn for a living. Claude Piel speaks about Millennium Children at the gala 2018 of the Diplomatic Council (UN org).

Paris, France, le 20 décembre 2017 – Son Excellence Monsieur Buddhi K. Athauda a présenté ses lettres de créance à Emmanuel Macron, président de la République française, en sa qualité de nouvel Ambassadeur du Sri Lanka en France. Il est également Ambassadeur du Sri Lanka en Espagne, au Portugal, à Monaco et en Andorre, ainsi qu’ ambassadeur extraordinaire et plénipotentiaire délégué permanent auprès de l’UNESCO et président fondateur du Diplomatic Council (DC) accrédité auprès des Nations Unies.

Dans le cadre d’une cérémonie festive au Palais de l’Élysée à Paris, les deux présidents ont souligné l’importance primordiale de la diplomatie économique au service de la compréhension entre les peuples. Ce sujet tient particulièrement à coeur à S. E. Buddhi Athauda en tant que président du Diplomatic Council. Le DC se définit en effet comme une passerelle entre la diplomatie et le monde des affaires : il est composé de plus de 6 000 membres issus non seulement du monde diplomatique avec de nombreux ambassadeurs et diplomates, mais également de personnalités de renom appartenant au monde des affaires.

Pour clôturer cette journée au Palais de l’Élysée, l’ambassadeur Buddhi K. Athauda a invité les ambassadeurs et consuls du DC ainsi que d’autres ambassadeurs de grande importance à un apéritif festif et à un diner dans sa résidence privée. Son Excellence Monsieur l’ambassadeur Ahmad Jalali faisait également partie des invités en sa qualité de membre du Conseil Exécutif de l’UNESCO après en avoir été le président et membre depuis plus de quinze ans.
